Assembly Instructions for the Protoboard for an 8-terminal PICAXE
This provides assembly instructions for the Protoboard for an 8-terminal PICAXE. The silkscreen on the PCB is very good and you should have little trouble quickly and accurately assembing this high qualtity board.
I suggest mounting all low profile components first, followed by shorting block assembly followed by the electrolytic capacitors, D-sub connector, and the 78L05 regulstor. This will assure that the board will sit reasonably flat during assembly and also assure a minimum of difficult in mounting some of the smaller components.
- D2, 1N4004 diode. Align such that the band on the diode is aligned with the silkscreen on the PCB.
- Z, BAT42 diode. Align such that the band on the diode is aligned with the silkscreen on the PCB.
- R1, 22K resistor, (red, red, orange), 1/4W.
- R2, 10K resistor. (brown, black, orange), 1/4W.
- R3, 330 resistor, (orange, orange, brown), 1/4W.
- R4, 220 resistor, (red, red, brown), 1/4 W. Alternatively this may be 180 Ohm.
- U2, 8-term socket. Align notch on the end of the socket with the silkscreen.
- R5/P0, 3-terminal connector. Connect the shorting block as shown in the photo.
- RS232, 9-term D-sub connector, Placing this requires alignment of all 9-terminals with the holes on the PCB. Check to be sure none of the terminals are bent. Place and gently turn back and forth, while exerting minimal pressure until the connector drops into place.
- C1, C2, C3, 0.01 uFd ceraminc capcitors.
- U1, 78L05, Voltage regulator. Align flat on the 78L05 with the silkscreen.
- PWR, LED. Align flat on the LED with the silkscreen.
- C4, 100 uFd, electrolytic capacitor. Align such that the minus on the cap is nearest the "C4" lable on the silkscreen.
- C5, 250 uFd, electrolytic capacitor. Align the minus on the cap with the "-" on the silkscreen.
