New USB Versions of the IOM #135E and IOM #136 Modules

We have developed two new modules, IOM #135-USB and IOM #136-USB which are similar to the popular IOM #135E and IOM #136 modules.

These new units provide a USB interface rather than a DB9 RS232 serial interface. In addition, the units are powered via the USB port rather than using a wall power unit and an onboard 7805 voltage regulator.

These USB modules use the popular FT232BM USB - RS232 adaptor. Drivers are available at the FTDI website.

These new modules are constructed using a prototyping board which was originally designed for another application. There is an 8-pin socket which originally was intended to accommodate an EEPROM which is not used and a rather conspicuous momentary pushbutton which is not used.

The IOM #135 (RS232 version) provides seven 10-bit A/D converters. Due to the wiring of the activity LED and the unused pushbutton, the IOM #135-USB provides six 10-bit A/D converters. These are addressed as A1 through A6 for measurements on specific A/D channels or A0 to perform A/D measurements on all channels.

The IOM #136 (RS232 version) provides eight 12-bit A/D converters, A1 - A8. The IOM #136-USB provides only six 12-bit A/D channels; A1 - A4 and A7 - A8 for measurements on specific channels and A0 to perform measurements on all six channels.
